I am moving to Denver from the Sierra's in CA. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify some of the public land areas that offer good bowhunting. I am interested in all types of game, and have hunted many. In addition any archery shows you could recommend?
The Colorado DOW produces a DVD with data on big game seasonal concentrations, harvest data and topographical maps available at www.wildlife.state.co.us/shopDOW, unfortunately it is $97.95, but then the cost of their non-resident licenses (which you will need if you are a resident for less than 6 months at time of license application) are also overpriced.. Success rates by season and management unit are also available on their website www.wildlife.state.co.us. There are an abundance of BLM, National Forest, and Wildlife Management Areas that have good hunting within a reasonable distance of Denver, but I'm not about to reveal the areas I hunt on an open forum. I am not aware of any "archery only" shows, but there is the Colorado Bowhunters Association which has been active and successful in promoting bowhunting opportunity in Colorado.
