Chris got the first part right, about the right and left handed bow. The white bow on that show is a FITA style or Olympic style recurve. The other bow on that show, the black one is actually a traditional Korean bow. A Japanese bow is about 8 feet long and asymmetrical.
If you're interested in Olympic style target archery, try going to www.usarchery.org, and find a club near you. That is if you're in the US. The best way to get started is to take a lesson. Some clubs offer a free, yes you heard me right, free beginner lesson all equipments provided. Others will charge a small fee.
